Hurricane Jimena: Travel waiver/change policies from airlines

Tourists explore in Cabo San Lucas. Officials urged people at the tip of Baja California to prepare for Hurricane Jimena.

Our friends over at the Outposts blog report in a Hurricane Jimena update that Cabo San Lucas is no longer in the path of Hurricane Jimena, which is just short of being just short of a Category 5 hurricane. However, the Baja California peninsula is still on alert. “The Mexican government has extended a hurricane warning northward on the Pacific side of the peninsula from Cabo San Lucas to Punta Abreojos, and along the gulf side to Mulege,” Outposts reports.

Many of the airlines are trying to accommodate customers who are altering their travel plans because of the hurricane. Find out more information here:

American Airlines: If you are traveling to, from or through Cabo San Lucas Los Cabos, Mexico (SJD), Mazatlan, Mexico (MZT), Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (PVR), Aug. 30-Sept. 2, and your ticket was purchased no later than Aug. 30, you may change your reservation without penalty as late as Sept. 3-8, 2009. Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air: If you were traveling to or from Los Cabos (SJD) on Aug. 31-Sept. 2, change fees and fare differences will be waived if new travel is on or before Sept. 9, 2009, and is in the same class of service to the same city pairs as originally ticketed. You can reschedule or rebook your flights to an alternative destination without paying the standard change fees. Customers can request a refund if their flight was canceled. United Airlines: A travel waiver is in effect for Los Cabos, Mexico, for travelers flying to, from or through Los Cabos, Mexico (SJD), Aug. 30-Sept. 3, 2009, if the ticket was purchased on or before Aug. 30. Continental Airlines: Customers can reschedule or reroute their travel once, without penalty, if they are ticketed to/from San Jose del Cabo, Mexico (SJD), with original travel dates Aug. 30-Sept. 2, 2009.
