England will not name an extra batsman in their squad for the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston, which is live on Sky Sports.

National selector Geoff Miller is likely to announce a 13-man party on Sunday morning that will not include the injured Kevin Pietersen.

The Hampshire batsman has been ruled out of the rest of the series against Australia having had surgery on his troublesome Achilles.

Ian Bell will replace Pietersen in the middle order at his home ground after England coach Andy Flower publicly acknowledged the Warwickshire right-hander as the next in the queue.

No problems

"There are no injury problems as such, so we probably won't need to do that," Miller replied when asked about calling up another batsman.

"We had question marks to cover in the last squad but I don't foresee needing to do that here.

"If we needed to draft someone in for any reason, we know who we would be looking at and have provision to do that at short notice."

Steve Harmison and Monty Panesar - who were included in the squad for the second Test but did not play - will come into contention for selection.

England will be hoping Andrew Flintoff will be fit to feature in Birmingham after his man-of-the-match display in the victory at Lord's.

The Lancashire all-rounder has been troubled again by the right knee injury since his final-day heroics but is determined to play through the pain barrier.

Pitch concerns

Another concern could well be the state of the Edgbaston surface, with groundsman Steve Rouse admitting recently that inclement weather has left the playing surface looking "like jelly".

However, England have little need to strengthen their batting further with Flintoff coming in at seven followed by Stuart Broad at eight and then Graeme Swann at nine.

"We have all bases covered so that, whatever conditions we turn up to, we have players to complement them," Miller added.

"There is a lot of time and a lot of weather between now and then, and we will keep monitoring it."
