Facebook launches English version of Lite

Facebook Lite, the stripped-down version of the social networking site, has dumped all the extra apps, quizzes and games for a bandwidth-friendly clean look that is now available in Europe and the US.

The lightweight site was originally targeted at developing countries, where broadband infrastructure is minimal and where many have access through mobile phones only.

However, the new look is reminiscent of the older, cleaner Facebook from 2005/2006 and fans that were overwhelmed by the various tweaks over the past few years are embracing the minimalist English-language version that has just come online.

“I live in a rural area and dial-up is my only option, so it is great to have a clean version of Facebook that loads quickly," one user said. "Thank you so much for opening this up to everyone. It reminds me of how Facebook used to be, and I love it.”

Another user said: “Whatever you do, please, please do not allow the quizzes, games or apps to ruin this pristine version of Facebook.”

One more fan declared: “This might be enough to keep me away from Twitter. Good work guys. Keep it this simplistic.”
