Football Rivalry Travel: Venturing Into Gator Country

Professional football is right around the corner, but more importantly for some, college football has already arrived. Here’s the scoop on just one of the country’s best rivalries to help your sports travel planning.

· Rivalry Match-Up: Tennessee at Florida on September 19.
The two schools aren’t big fans of each other to say the least, and being paired together in the Southeaster Conference has not improved things. Tennessee’s new coach has been running his mouth a lot, so the Gators are ready to bite back. The series is dead even, but the Gators have been more successful recently.

Stadium Info and tips on where to sleep and party, after the jump.

· Home Turf: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field in Gainesville, Florida.
The place is affectionately known as "The Swamp," so Tennessee fans making the trip for the away game beware. Expect at least 90,000 fans, students, and other crazies to fill the place while they mimic the motions of a chomping gator.

· Away Team Accommodations: If you need a place to rest before or after the game, make a reservation now. Hotels are filling up, and even the Country Inn & Suites is $250 per night. We wanted to recommend the Residence Inn Gainesville, for tailgate cooking preparation in their mini kitchen, but they are filled up that weekend.

· Where to Party: You’re in a college town so if you want to party just ask around, or pick a loose beer off the ground—kidding. If you want something slightly classier head to the Salty Dog Saloon. They’ve got loads of beers on tap from around the world, and for Gators fans, plenty of memorabilia affixed to the walls. If you need a weekend souvenir, grab a shirt from Stubbie Shirt Pub—they’ve got some that will probably get you slapped.
