South Africa coach Joel Santana says he is happy with the way the 2010 World Cup hosts played despite losing 2-0 to Germany in a friendly on Saturday.
Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez and Werder Bremen winger Mesut Oezil scored in each half to seal the win.
Santana said Bafana Bafana had benefited from the experience of playing such a strong side.
"It was a good match for us, we gave a good account of ourselves and I'm happy with the performance," he said.
"The South African team were against one of the strongest who are ranked in the top four.
"The game gave us exactly what we wanted: international experience.
South Africa now travel to play the Republic of Ireland on 8 September, while on the same day Germany facing minnows Azerbaijan again in Hanover in a World Cup qualifier.
Meanwhile Africa Cup of Nations hosts Angola drew 1-1 with Senegal in a friendly in Portugal.
After a goalless first half, Senegal took the lead through Marseille striker Mamadou Niang after 54th minutes.
Angola equalised in the 66th minute courtesy of an own goal by Rennes defender Kader Mangane.
