Twitter changes terms of service to allow targeted ads Submitted by Justin Sorkin

With its Thursday modification terms of service for Twitter users, the micro-blogging site has waded right into the dicey waters of changes to privacy policy and advertising - more so as social networks Facebook and MySpace have already irked their users by changing terms of service to incorporate ads!

Referring to the updated terms of service, that would allow Twitter and its associates to target ads based on Tweets, searches, and other information provided by users, the company said that the move is intended at "leaving the door open for exploration in this area."

Parts of the new terms of service read thus: "The Services may include advertisements, which may be targeted to the Content or information on the Services, queries made through the Services, or other information. In consideration for Twitter granting you access to and use of the Services, you agree that Twitter and its third party providers and partners may place such advertising on the Services or in connection with the display of Content or information from the Services whether submitted by you or others."

However, while the new terms also now explicitly state that though Twitter does not own the 'Tweets,' Twitter founder Biz Stone had said in a recent blog that the company can "use, copy, reproduce, process, adapt, modify, publish, transmit, display, and distribute" user-Tweets the way it pleases!
