England coach Fabio Capello has decided whether to play Jermain Defoe or Emile Heskey against Croatia but is keeping his cards close to his chest.
Defoe has scored five goals in his last three games for England, while target man Heskey played in the 4-1 qualifying victory against Croatia in Zagreb.
Asked whether he knew who would partner Wayne Rooney, Capello said: "More or less I have decided in my mind."
The England coach added that he had no injury problems in his squad of 25.
Victory for Capello's team on Wednesday will guarantee their qualification for the World Cup in South Africa.
Steve McClaren's England lost a crucial qualifier to Croatia at a sodden Wembley in November 2007 - a result that cost the team a place at the Euro 2008 finals.
However, Italian Capello believes the result two years ago is not a motivating factor for his team.
It would be nice to finish the job at Wembley where we threw it away before England captain John Terry on qualifying for South Africa |
"That match is too old, it was too long ago. It is history," he said.
"I prefer to look at the next game. I do not speak about a game that they played two years ago.
"I have to motivate the players for Wednesday, not what happened two years ago.
"They will go into this game thinking about how we won in Croatia."
Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry started back in 2007 - and the trio are likely to be the only survivors to start on Wednesday, while Defoe came off the bench.
"It is still in the back of each player's mind a bit," said current England skipper John Terry. "But it is a new era now and a new start for everyone since the new manager has come in.
"It is important the manager draws attention away from it, but difficult for players to collectively rule it out of our minds."
"It is a chance to correct things from the bad campaign we had last time."
Terry believes that if England seal qualification on Wednesday it will completely erase memories of the 3-2 defeat that proved to be McClaren's final match in charge of England.
"It would be nice for our fans and ourselves to finish the job at Wembley where we threw it away before," he added.
"It would wipe it all away. We all know we should have done better, but the manager said it is a new start and we have been doing very well.
"We have to concentrate on how far we have come since then."
And the central defender believes that an early qualification will have an impact on England's prospects of winning next year's tournament in South Africa.
"If we can put ourselves there early with a lot of preparation, we could have a good chance," he added.
"But first and foremost we have to win on Wednesday. Ideally to finish the group early would give the manager a chance to try new things."
Coach Capello is adamant that any discussion of the World Cup will not take place until qualification has been secured.
"We have three finals to play now - Wednesday's will be the first, after will be in Ukraine, then the last at home to Belarus," added Capello.
"We have to win one or draw some. But the most important thing is to arrive first in the group to get to the World Cup and then we can speak about it.
"We are playing well at Wembley, have won all the games and play with confidence. I am sure that will be the same on Wednesday."
England trained at Arsenal's London Colney complex, with all 25 in the squad participating.
Theo Walcott scored a hat-trick in the victory in Zagreb but is out with a back injury so Aaron Lennon, Shaun Wright-Phillips and David Beckham are competing for a place on the right flank.
Lennon impressed against Slovenia in the 2-1 friendly win on Saturday and is regarded as the favourite.
Croatia, coached by Slaven Bilic, have Luka Modric sidelined and Vedran Corluka suspended.
