Vigils Held To Show Support For Health-Care Bill

the healthcare reform debate rages on, thousands attended vigils held nationwide, including four in the Washington area, urging Congress and the Obama Administration to approve a bill soon.

Nita Chaudhary, who is the National Campaigns And Organizing Director for liberal group - MoveOn. org, responsible for organizing the 'We Can't Afford to Wait' vigils said, the vigils were meant to be reminders for the lawmakers that the healthcare debate was not about politics, rather it was about people the current healthcare system is literally crushing.

About 300-people gathered at the Government Centre in Fairfax, attending the forum put up by Charlottesville-based non-profit agency - Virginia Organizing Project, including Health Care for America Now!, a coalition of groups that advocate reform.

People attending the vigils believed they offered an opportunity to remind President Obama of his health reform promises and to encourage him to get back on track.

Chaudhary says Moveon and other groups will organize other grassroots efforts following the vigils, and will continue to organize such events till the government passes a strong health-care reform bill offering a robust public option.

Some protesters also expressed concern that illegal immigrants would take advantage of the new health care proposal, but despite differences, everyone agreed that there was a pressing need for the health care system to change.
