Each day we seem to be witnessing more names in the mobile terrain joining the Android bandwagon. However, LG who appeared to be a stranger in this front until now seems to have caught up soon, with the company launching its first handset powered by Google’s Android operating system. Dubbed as the LG-GW620, this novel handset bears out the company focus on expanding its smartphone offering.

It’s a known fact that the company about a week ago had affirmed the launch of its three new LG Windows phones that are scheduled to be launched sometime in the coming weeks. And now with the announcement of this novel handset based on the Android platform, the company ensures efficient access to a variety of applications. Also, the company promises a series of Google services to enhance the overall user experience.

“The LG-GW620 will appeal to first-time smartphone customers by offering a new and different kind of user experience,” commented Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our objective is to provide a wide selection of smartphones to satisfy the diverse preferences of today’s consumers. This Android phone is just one of many smartphone models we plan to introduce worldwide in the years ahead.”

The LG creation boasts of a 3-inch full touchscreen display and a side-sliding QWERTY keypad, enabling users with a wider range of functionalities. Furthermore, the company states that the device flaunts support for favorite social networking sites along with offering the smartphone experience accessible to typical users. In addition, the phone swanks enhanced messaging capabilities, supposedly making it a great catch for young professionals.

As of now the company has disclosed only these few details about the Android phone. However, it’s expected to divulge a few more details regarding the handset as its release date nears.

The new LG Android phone is scheduled to be available in the fourth quarter of this year in Europe.
